ESRI ArcIMS and ArcSDE Servers
Live connections to a variety of Geographical Information System (GIS) datasets are available through our Spatial Database Engine (SDE) server and Internet Map Server (IMS).
ArcSDE
ESRI ArcSDE software provides access to a variety of spatial data. ArcSDE is integrated with other ESRI GIS applications, including ArcInfo, ArcView, and ArcExplorer. ArcExplorer is free software for those who do not have other ESRI products available. ArcSDE provides a common interface between the user and the some of the diverse data acquired and developed by PRISM partners. Because ArcSDE stores spatial data in a database, there is no need for the user to download, unzip, or convert data; the data is delivered dynamically across the network and is immediately ready for use in ESRI GIS desktop applications.
The Department of Earth and Space Sciences (ESS), the Puget Sound Regional Synthesis Model (PRISM), and The Pacific Northwest Center for Geologic Mapping Studies (GeoMapNW) at the University of Washington maintain an SDE server named crusty.ess.washington.edu. NOTE: This machine is invisible from outside the University of Washington network. All data is password protected. Passwords will be handed out fairly freely for some datasets, and may eventually be posted here. For other datasets, users may have to affirm that they have read licensing agreements, and may have to sign disclaimers.
ArcIMS
ArcIMS is a GIS portal that delivers dynamic maps and GIS data via the Web. ArcIMS services can be accessed with web browsers, the ArcGIS Desktop, and some mobile and wireless devices.
